Mt. Healthy City School District celebrated the return of their students with a Back to School Backpack Bash on Sunday, August 15th. Several Mt. Healthy organizations collaborated to provide students the necessary essentials to get started for the school year. Revelation Missionary Baptist Church, Mt. Healthy City School District, Mt. Healthy Police Department, Target, Mt. Healthy Baptist Church, and Mt. Healthy Alliance came together distributing over 500 backpacks and essential school supplies to students and families. Pastor Kendall Washington of Revelation Missionary Baptist Church explained, “This event is positive proof of what can be accomplished through the power of partnership!”
In addition, Mt. Healthy families enjoyed grilled burgers and hot dogs, chips, refreshments, and games. United Dairy Farmers donated tasty ice cream on the warm summer day. Children delighted in the two bouncy houses and a blow-up race game. Mt. Healthy City School District Food Pantry and Mt. Healthy Alliance Food Pantry provided families with food boxes filled with necessary essentials. Target employees assisted families in completing applications and scheduling interviews to join the Target team. The HealthCare Connection and National Guard personnel provided COVID 19 vaccinations to any adult or young person 12 years and older. Champions, the before and after school program for the district, was available to discuss and sign-up families for their program. The Back to School Bash was such an outstanding success that the organizers hope to continue yearly.
