On Wednesday, March 1st the Mt. Healthy City
School District was made aware of a school shooter threat that had
been called into the Mt. Healthy Police Department. The caller stated
that there was an active shooter in room 55 of the Mt. Healthy Jr/Sr
building. Police responded to the Jr/Sr High building immediately and
cleared the building in which they found no threat and the call was
deemed not credible by law enforcement. In addition, it was determined
that room 55 does not exist in the building.
In response to the situation, the building went into an immediate
lockdown. As a precaution, there was a brief staging area where parents were
directed to while the building was being cleared. After the building
was deemed safe by the police department, the school district had
students transported home and allowed parents/guardians to pick up
their children.
While the Jr/Sr High building was being cleared another
prank call of a similar nature was made about a school in Mt. Healthy
that is not part of the district. The unrelated building was in close
proximity to Mt. Healthy City Schools Central Office and Mt. Healthy South
Elementary. Both buildings went into an external lockdown while law
enforcement addressed the situation.
We want to thank the Mt. Healthy Police Department, the Mt. Healthy
Fire Department, and all the other law enforcement agencies that
responded quickly and efficiently to the situation. Their actions
ensured the safety of our students and staff.
We would also like to extend our deepest condolences to the families,
staff, and students for the emotional response they had to this
incident. The safety and well-being of our students and staff is
always our top priority.
We understand that this event may have caused some anxiety and worry
for our students and families, and we want to assure everyone that we
are taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of our
school community. We will continue to work closely with local law
enforcement to keep our schools safe.
